Nikon Coolpix 3700 digital camera review

The Nikon Coolpix 3700 is a sub-compact digital camera with a precision 3x Optical-Zoom Nikkor lens and 3.2-megapixel resolution that delivers up to 2048 x 1536-pixel images. It incorporates a host of new and exciting Coolpix features designed to make picture-taking fast and simple. The Coolpix 3700 is the first Coolpix camera to use SD memory, the fastest growing and most widely embraced digital medium available today.

Like other Nikon cameras, the Coolpix 3700 includes a Lexar "starter" memory card. The one included here is 16MB, which is okay, but you'll want a larger one right away. Might I suggest 128MB as a good place to start? The CP3700 does not support MultiMediaCards!

The Coolpix 3700 uses the new EN-EL5 battery, a proprietary lithium-ion battery with 4.0 Wh of energy. Nikon estimates that you can take about 200 photos per charge, which is typical of a compact camera.

Normally I knock a camera that uses proprietary batteries, and I do so for two reasons. One, because they're expensive.In addition to using the EN-EL5, the CP3700 can also use a CP1 lithium prismatic battery (not rechargeable). The CP1 lasts about 25% longer than the EN-EL5.

Encased in a slim compact body with a brushed aluminium finish, the camera measures approximately (W x H x D) 95.5 x 50.0 x 31.0mm (3.76 x 1.97 x 1.22 in) and weighs just 130g (4.6oz) without battery and SD memory card.

4. Continuous Shooting: The fast-acting shutter is also capable of shooting at 2.5 (H) or 1.5 (L) frames per second, or the new Multi-shot mode for capturing 16 consecutive frames in a single image.

5. Macro Function: In Macro Mode, the Coolpix 3700 delivers sharply focused images of subjects from as close as 4cm (1.6in).

6. TV Movie Mode: The Coolpix 3700 offers eight Movie Modes, including a new TV Movie Mode with streaming technology that enables the production of TV-size (640 x 480-pixel) movies complete with sound.
